Vista Mess ....

Hi ... I'm in, yet another, fine mess.

Installed Vista, on well-intentioned advice. I know, I know, but now I gotta deal with it.

Vista doesn't recognize any of my software. In particular, Thunderbird, FireFox, Office 2003 and, it seems, various settings and preferences.

Any way to get Vista to recognize my software? Is there something simple, which I'm missing? Ugh.

Nope that is why vista sucks it does what it wants to when it wants reinstall xp.

Bet you heard it a million times, Vista sucks! They don't even allow you to downgrade to XP without going to store and buying XP and doijng it over the phone

 

Hi All ... %$#@. I've an OS that won't recognize apps, unless, it appears, I want to start from scratch, say, about 1984. %$#@. Wonder if install Vista Office will result in recognize of those apps and documents? Oy. Thanks for the support.

 

Nope it will not. Seriously man if the computer did not come with it vista blows. I will NEVER upgrade to it. I will go linux first.

You should hold off upgrading until Microsoft comes up with a couple of service packs for Vista.

 

That's why I moved away from installing Vista on Laptop....

I am very happy with Windows XP

 

Since they won't let me downgrade to XP, maybe I can use my old windows 98 CD

 

Hi Cool 78 ... problem is I DID upgrade (sic) and, interestingly, there's a service pak already. All I care about, for the moment, is how to get Vista to recognize my apps and documents. Ugh. Thanks.

 

Hi LLLL ... I could use my 2000 disk, and maybe come back up to XP. How do I go about making that change? I don't think my 2000 disk is bootable. Any ideas? Thanks.

 

If it is an original disk it is bootable. When it asks you what drive to install on tell it to format it. Then install 2000 then upgrade to xp.

Sorry to hear about all the ^%* you're going through. I field so many calls everyday about this Vista garbage. It makes my head spin.

Is it possible for you to do an Ubuntu Partition on the system for all your open source apps?

Ubuntu is the latest version of an open-source OS that is very user friendly. Most of the programs you mentioned have a release or package availalbe for use in an Ubuntu environment.

Google Ubuntu and you can read all about it.Also the CD's and download can be run on a PC without robbing all of the resources of the system.

 

Hi Pakh ... was using XP, but unstable, so well-intentioned pal advised moving up (sic) to Vista.

Maybe if I install Vista Office, I can access my apps and documents. This would give me some time to find a work around.

Deluxdon has no problems, Vista picks up his apps and documents. Do you think there might be something I can do to make this happen?

Alernatively, do you think I could access my docs, if I installed Vista Office?
