My first computer was a PC. But then I bought my first powerbook and from then on considered myself a MAC user. Now though, I've been using PCs again for the past few years for work. Vista is generally okay but it crashes w/certain programs (which never used to happen on my mac) I'm using an HP and the hardware is really sleek and I have no complaints but the Vista is forcing me to save up for a macbook pro. Plus, I miss the unix system which I loved for web development and testing.
Before you turn them off remember Microsoft prefers you don't. In fact it recommends you don't. For all of you that disabled it you don't like Vista do you!
After one week with Vista for business, I pulled the hard drive, put in a new one, and installed XP Pro. Even though I had security prompts turned off, it still asked me to allow access to my Logitech mouse. . . my mouse! Plus Office 2003 loaded much slower, I had higher dropped frames when compiling videos and a host of other annoynances. No thanks.....
Ha ha. Disabling the eye candy makes it slower. Aero gets rendered by your GPU, and even a crappy integrated GeForce 6100 with 16MB of VRAM (what I was running on Vista for awhile) can quickly render the screen. Turning Aero off forces the CPU to render the screen (which is how XP, 2000, ME, 9x, has done it)
We can't judge a problem by just a few hours working on it. Give it some time and then one would be so familiar that wouldn't believe how he had done without it. .
Indeed. Most of the positive comments are about the UI. Eye Candy over usability when you have to lower security in order to get past endless prompts. And this is a major flaw in thinking. Why pirate when you can get a free OS, with numerous free software suites that offer you comparable features, and in many cases, the ability to extend the lifecycle of older PCs? I'm not a Linux zealot, but my days of being a MS fanboy ended as soon as I took an interest in CSS. I'd rather spend money on my quality of life, than a vicious software and hardware upgrade cycle, in order to conform.
Microsoft is not selling Vista. People are taking a wait and see approach. People do not like the idea of having to buy a new computer and software just to have eye candy.
Tested Vista, not impressed overall. Why MS spent so much time just to create some fancy GUI? I think they are obviously hitting the ceiling of OS market.
If it's too irritating you could go back to XP. Here's an discussion I found about it; http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?forumID=5&threadID=242435&messageID=2455982&tag=nl.e406
It seems funny how people now have forums on how to go back to XP. Microsoft must be kicking themselves.
Other's hates vista for now like XP when it was released after windows 98. Someday they will love it like we love XP today... Cheers...
Yeah, but can Microsoft afford so much bad publicity. All the reviews say if you want eye candy buy Vista. No review says it's a must.
You can turn those features off...In the control panel --> Users... Then it wont irritate you Its callers UAC
mac isn't bad, it has it's uses. like windows as is. i personally love windows. xp isn't bad, some bugs but overall stable and reliable. vista it's very above xp, it reloads drivers without a system restart, the utilitie to find new drivers is simply awesome and it's very stable ( i have a comp with vista ultimate ). about security, what can i say? mac - will be always more secure as long it continues to be less used. windows - was and is the favorite target for hackers and virus makers, why ? it's simple the most used therefor they have more to gain. linux - also secure but not as much as the mac, some virus as apeared to them and some bug holes since they as became more widely used. it's the same thing when you go to browsers, why would i make a virus/find a hole that only reachs 1% of the computers or less? yes, IE6 was very buggy, IE7 is slightly more secure and i use it cause i like it. firefox is very nice also, but the mac browser is better if you want to compare them. it's the same war on the hd-dvd and bluray as it was on the dvd-r and dvd+r. it's a matter of taste, i like IE7 more you like Firefox, if IE7 wasn't release i would continue to use Firefox, cause ie6 wasn't good as firefox back then. just my 2 cents
