I have a legit Windows Vista Home Premium edition and for some reason every time I leave it on for a long duration (such as overnight) and I come back and I open Internet Explorer 7, like 1 minute into it, the whole system crashes.

I never remember to show the Task Manager to know if weather it is a memory leak or not... Does anyone have any idea why this happens?

Again, this is the REAL Vista home premium edition straight from Best Buy... Does anyone else have this problem?

What site(s) is it on during this time? Do any of these sites automatically refresh every x seconds? What plugins & toolbars do you have installed? Do any of the sites use Java?

I have the same Vista as you and I leave my computer on all night every night. I have yet to encounter this problem. Have you downloaded any of the new Windows updates? Do you automatically allow those updates to download?

If so you make want to check those and see if one of the downloads is conflicting with IE 7

I have the same problem, but get this... not only does the whole system crash, but chkdsk runs and actually deletes a whole bunch of the Vista file system NEVER TO RUN AGAIN.

I have fresh installed it a dozen times, tried installing updates/not installing updates, screen saver/hibernate off etc etc

NOTHING works, so Vista is is chucked in the corner until i can be bothered wasting another week.

I was playing with it in a shop and the CPU usage was 50% when I was just playing with the gadgets :p

Though, when i tried a mac, there Widgets seemed to cause no effect to CPU usage :)

Vista is more than unreliable, it's XP that tried to be a Mac...but needs way more juice.

I have been considering Vista, but I am beginning to wonder after reading this thread. I am still stuck on the requirements for Vista.

Below is copied from Microsoft's website
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Recommended system requirements
    1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

    1 GB of system memory

40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space

Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:

    WDDM Driver

128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)

    Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware

    32 bits per pixel

    DVD-ROM drive

    Audio Output

    Internet access (fees may apply)

I'm sticking with XP. Everything I've read and heard about Vista is a big red flashing warning sign saying STAY AWAY.

It's buggy (Microsoft, you had to expect it)
Doesn't work with some hardware and software due to driver conflicts
    Its a resource HAWG
    Its less stable than XP
Its expensive to upgrade and for WHAT?

Just my two cents. Instead of releasing a more stable and streamline OS, they rolled out an even bigger whale. Does this remind anyone of the Me farce?
