I still prefer XP..XP is just as good as Vista IMO..Anyone can skin XP to make it look somewhat like Vista, also Vista has some features that may not be good for a lot of online users..IMO, it isn't good if you're someone like me who does programming with languages such as Visual Basic, JAVA, etc..It can be good for just a normal PC user though..I guess it just depends on what you use the computer for.

The thing is you probobly need around 1 and 1/2 gigs of RAM to run vista in virtual PC because your still running XP in the background.

No less than 2GB RAM and a high end graphics card will allow you get the most out of Vista not to mention having Vista non-Basic edition.

The coolest thing about Vista is AERO and you need a compliant video card and a LOT of ram to run it. It's cool but it is not my cup of tea. Linux has had the same type of sidebar/stickies for years.

Blergghh and instead of prefetch like XP has, it has superfetch. It takes awhile to boot up :(

I'm still waiting for all the kinks to be worked out.

I have 512 mb and it works ok.. untill I run photoshop or something.. Yes it does require higher configuration. More than CPU it is the RAM that matters. Get a 1GB Ram and all will be fine..
I am going to upgrade to 1GB sooner or later. For general purpose 512 should be fine. If you are running any intensive graphic application, 1 GB is must..

WinXp with SP2 is the best OS ever by Microsoft, yes it is more stable than vista.. Vista hung for me at times..

Win XP with SP2 the best
Win ME the worst OS ever!!!

Microsoft has seen them both :p

    ..:: peace ::..

my card isn't good enough to run vista I don't think... I'm fine with XP for now.. My brother is running his Vista as well as his XP... He has one of them one an external HD... Main reason he didnt do a complete switch was because of all the files he had on his XP. But he said Vista isnt a bad OS and hasn't ran into many problems!

Rather weird comparision I must say.. Proxy = Vista..

Sadly all new OS's will require vast amounts of resources.. Unless you think all this flashy garbage takes up nothing..

Its not the proxy that sucks the bandwidth.. Its the fact of how the proxy works that sucks bandwidth.

I see nothing wrong with Vista.. It lets me know when ever I'm doing anything.. Abit too much.. But overall it stops shit from getting on my lappy.

Think the reason vista may run faster on machine with good config, is they dont search for file details like xp before load. It searches for file details(type of file, size etc) only after you click on it, or has detailed view.

I think this Vista brings nothing new to what already has, so I would stay out of it.

Vista is for the future. I wouldn't get a computer for a year or so if you can help it when prices come down more and more technology comes out like octo core processors, flash hard drives, and 4GB to 8GB will be standard configuration.

I got Vista, downgraded to Home Premium as RAM I only had 1GB, but it's been great. It's a bit to secure having to go through about 3 security popups just to install a font, but I have not had one virus since installation.

    :)

Vista is alright. Not that fast booting though, and uses a lot of RAM.

You need to install XP -BEFORE- Vista, because XP's boot manager won't recognize Vista once it erases the other. Simply make a partition and tell vista to install on it.
