I have been using Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP and even Windows Vista. Then I installed Ubuntu (Linux). I realized that I had wasted my time with Windows. I now have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X, plus Linux on my Desktop PC. Windows is for the dumb people
Well i had many problems to Instal it , and when i actually managed to do it i havnt used it more than a 30 minutes , so first think if you really need a change to your XP mate
Vista sucks, too much resources eaten, too much incompatibility. when there will be compatibility with all software, yay vista will be ok
I remember when XP was launched. Everyone said it was crap and all but after a year everyone was using it. Same will be seen with vista, I don't see Mac and Linux close to it.
oo is it? care to explain? I like Vista but sticking with XP/Ubuntu for now. I'm giving Vista one more year for updates and etc until I have it replace XP.
Vista always has errors and half the printers and other accessories say they're compatible and don't freaking work!! I am about to go buy XP and get rid of this crap from my computer.. Microsoft has you hostage when you buy a new laptop! Hell, WIN2K is better...
I'm hoping the next OS doesn't come with any random features that eat resources. I upgraded to Vista because soon you'll need Vista to keep up.
Don't go to vista unless you got over 2GB ram, especially if your a designer, Photoshop of all applications or even illustrator DEMAND memory, why would you wanna even give the extra memory to Vista, especially when you can save on loads of memory with XP.. Thats the main reason I would stick with XP. Also if you don't have a Dual Core don't bother going vista either, I've got 1GB PC3700 Memory, 2.16GHZ S939 3000+ Overclocked.. 7600GT runs vista perfectly BUT, when you start using for example a few applications at once it does put more load on your system, applications run slower then they would in XP, I've used both, I liked vista to be honest, mainly because of the looks, but I switched back when I was having some problems, after switch I was happy, noticeable difference in everything.. XP is faster! because it puts less load on your system.. If you got a good system with good ram & video card, go ahead and make the switch, but even then there will be some annoying things about Vista, the control panel is totally different, some things similar but most of it is totally new, it keeps asking you to allow when u extract files or run a program, sort of annoying.. stuff like that.. But I think the major concern is your system performance, as long as you got something better then mines or a Dual Core with over 1GB memory, and at least a pci-e card something decent not on-board, then your good to go. OH and if you go vista be prepared to run into some major driver issues!
I just bought Vista and upgraded.. I think is is fantastic.. not slow at all... much faster than XP...
I have to agree with rockinaway, I am also using Vista and it works just perfect. Both Vista and XP are fine.
If you have 2GB or ram and need something more secure I'd say upgrade. I've been using Vista for over 7 months now and it is yet to crash...freeze up or shut down. If a program ends without warning it provides and error report and tells you what caused it and will even carry you to the manufacturers site for patch instructions. And I've also not installed any antivirus on the computer. Best OS to date and if you have the RAM its a definite yes to upgrade.
This is one of the reasons I'm switching some of my (home) PC's to Linux this year. I don't have to pay lots of money on software and OS to simple Browsing, E-Mail, Chat (IM), VoIP.. I must stay in Windows because of Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver, I can do the rest in Ubuntu Linux easily. My main PC is a fast 2007 Intel Dual Core with 2GB of RAM (very well capable of running Vista) and have XP and Ubuntu Linux in Dual Boot. I'm not going to waste half of my RAM to dedicate it to Vista.
I do, and it still sucks. Having more resources to waste doesn't mean you should waste them. Exactly my point.
