I have used Vista for 2 months and downgraded, so a: I am not jealous, and b: I can verify it is crap. Also it came on my new laptop which was brand new with Home Premium, all I can say is slow, and buggy. Better yet microsoft revealed that the SP1 will contain only a few enhancements and no new features. Oh and I actually downgraded to XP.
vista x64 is really fast and much more secure than any other windows operating system since there are no viruses or spyware designed for x64 yet
One good thing with Vista is Windows Mail which is the new Outlook express, the spam filter built into it is about 1000% better in killing SPAM than the best spam filters on XP (I use to use Cloudmark but that cost me $$ per month). Vista has made that anti-spam service redundant. Cons with Vista include: New learning curve. Alot of things has changed in Vista, including how you navigate in folders, some say its more cumbersome some say its better.
No version of Vista is really fast, at least not in comparison to XP. Sure, x64 may have no viruses yet (though I doubt it) but that also means there are no programs for it!
Vista is great with great features and GUI.. but yes its performance is not upto the mark... it takes more time to boot and also to load the OS.. maybe they fix that with the first service pack....
I going to buy a vista laptop tommorrow..... I hope I get a GREAT deal!! I think Vista is better than XP and is more stable..
I'm not a big windows fan but i don't hate it either. I saw Vista on my brother's new laptop and i really liked it. It has great colors and looks very sharp. However, if you don't have a good laptop or desktop, don't even bother thinking about it.
It's good for base users, who use it for office applications, blogging, and other light weighted tasks
Actually, barely any features other than the GUI have been added since XP. You won't, just getting vista is a bad deal. How is it better? It's certainly not more stable.
I have vista running on a 64 bit machine with 2 gig ram. No issues related to running it, my issues are software related. Do to the nature of what I do I almost had to get vista to become familiar with it. To be honest, I wouldn't buy it for another machine until they release a service pack or two. Microsoft is one of those companies that you have a love/hate relationship with. You have to love them because they have a great market and are a good source to make money off of, but really hate them because of all the stupid and dumb things they do. For example, I recently added a linux server (gotta be penguin friendly) and got samba up and running. I could not get Vista to see the server. After doing research I found it that it had to do with a protocol related to viewing shares on a network and found out that I had to change a setting. To make it better, I had to go into the registry to make the change. The frontend option was not available on my vista version.
No its HORRIBLE. My university gave me a free laptop and I want to reformat it so bad but Ive got to use Vista
Microsoft rule of thumb : Wait at least a year after the official release since they will have plenty of Service packs and bugs fixed by then. MS lets users bugfix their stuff.
