When analyzing my website files, about 80% of my visitors come up as no referer. Can someone explain what this means. How do they get to the site? Its probably a stupid question, for they got there somehow, but am curious. Thanks, Reed

Referal information is sent out by the browser that your visitor uses. Many people now aday disable referal reporting due to security concerns and privacy.

How they get to your site? only the visitor knows. They may have come from another web site or search engine but since your server didn't receive referal info, it is not know.

That is actually a good thing honestly... means you have word of mouth traffic

The referrer value is generated by the User's Browser at the client side. Reasons for No referrer :
    1) Visitor came from an email signature link
    2) He typed your URL directly to the addressbar to get there
    3) Visitor is using a plugin like No-referrer or RefControl to manipulate the 'referrer' value
