I saw someone post about bounce rates affecting PR, and started wondering what type of bounce rates people have in general from search engine traffic. I've got one site where the bounce rate is about 20%, yet I have another site where the bounce rate is 55%. Everyone works hard to get the visitors, yet when you are only keeping 45% of them past the first page it sorta hurts. What type of bounce rates do others have, and how can they be improved?
view details of analytic . Check contents pages from which people come to site, and then check exit pages. Improve contents and pages from people exit.
Bounce rate is a term used in web site traffic analysis. It essentially represents the percentage of initial visitors to a site who "bounce" away to a different site, rather than continue on to other pages within the same site. You can check bounce rate via Google Analytics www.google.com/analytics/
Hey, It doesnt matter how much bounce rate others are having, you would always have scope for improvement. The process is landing page optimization. You basically need to assume that why visitors are leaving the site immediately and run a/b or multivariate test based on your assumption. For.e.g. hero shot of a female would work better for my product vs. Male (currently) So, A/B testing is your answer . In Analytics work , you can never find out "why" visitors left the site, but you can find out the pattern what were they looking forward that , they couldnt find , which led them to leave. This is what is needed to improve conversion. Let me know how it goes ! Thanks, Ravi
Bounce rate also depends on where you are getting the traffic from. Search engine traffic is usually good as they being organic in nature tend to spend good time if your content is good..... It is my observation that traffic from referral sites are generally very bouncy, as also the visitors from traffic exchange programs. Regards, RightMan
Bounce rate wouldnt affect the PR. The PR is depend on the backlink For the bounce rate, site, Google analytics specialist Avinash Kaushik mentioned that "It is really hard to get a bounce rate under 20%, anything over 35% is cause for concern, 50% (above) is worrying."
A/B testing is a great concept of course, but sites with low traffic it can be hard to gain any clear winner. If you have only 5 - 10 visitors a day to a site the stats generated via a/b testing can be off. I'll have to try it though, because it just does not work the way it is right now.
Does anyone here has the experiment to proved that bounce rate affect PR? If it's true the why should I bother since it PR doesn't affect my visitors or conversion.
Last month I saw a Matt Cutts video explaining how bounce rates and analytics have nothing to do with serps or pagerank. He basically said they are two different departments that don't share anything: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1isQG5ZoxM&feature=channel I actually wish they did. Obviously if your bounce rate is high than you are targeting the wrong keywords or you just plain have a crappy site.
Google and co. supposedly dont look into traffic when ranking sites. It is something that can be easily manipulated by autohits, and proxy hits.....so this is a positive
I dont think that there is a relation between pr and bounce rate . however it has some relations with serps
average bounce rate across my sites (commercial) is about 30-35%. Some go as low as 20, but to be honest these sites tend to give very very little information on the landing page and are basically just clickthrough pages to get to the product. I think if you're at around 30-35% , you're fine.. 40 and above is worrying, and you either have bad landing pages, browser layout problems, or you're being found for the wrong keywords. With commercial sites, 20% seems to mean you havent given the customer the information YET, so they clickthrough onto the next page (as they're a customer looking specifically for a product, they tend to have another click just to find it). These low bounce rate sites also tend to return the homepage for most terms. It doesnt seem to reflect a good site, and more represents the fact that your pages are doorway type pages to the product or section, if that make sense. And yes, i firmly believe google checks bounce rate AND othrer things and uses them in the serps.. and my figures and experimenting confirm this to me. why else would google offer you free comprehensive analytics?
