Visitors are coming in.... but not staying..

I have plently of visitors coming in, yet the percentage of them staying seems to be pretty low.

I advertise on target always, in fact, more of my backlinks go to direct articles than the main page. In addition to lots of sticky items .. like free adds for moms (it's a mom type site) free ways to advertise... banners... etc.

    Yet registration is pretty low.

    Suggestions please?

First, give your URL and I'll take a look, but if you don't want to share it, just fine. :D here are my suggestions.

    1. You may consider to add more contents and update regularly to keep visitors stay longer and come back more often.
    2. You may think about something unique that other sites similar like you don't have it or not good as you have and offer it for free.
    3. You may hire some PG to do useful script that visitor can use and tell others to come to your site.

:D wait for the next comments.

    cheers,

    - Your font is too big and make center too wide in my opinion, it also not good for 800 x 600 screen size too.
    - The people don't stay because they may confuse on what colour your site using. All are the same and nothing spot. Hard for visitors to keep looking what you offer to them.
    - For online home at bottem-left you should consider to turn it off and don't show the number until you have more visitors.
    - You should ask some graphic designer to look over, all colour of your site make my eyes tired and confusing (may be me only :D ) change or mix some colours is better.

Yknow what, I forgot something in my request also..

Most visitors do not start their visit on the index page, most traffic comes through inner links.. but THAT PAGE SUX .. I have no imagination when it comes to 'hey welcome to my page' and stuff like that ..

So I'd also love any idea's involving that ugly index center area!

heheh.. looks like you found it b4 i mentioned it ;)

My opinion is to put black text as the headline and increase it's size. Make your argument in bullet points. Indent the text so that it doesnt spread from side to side. Make the main points, that bulletined text, smaller and more readable with a darker font.

Try to offer something your visitors with useful information, a Gift card, discount offer, referral reward ect, Also update your site and optimize keyword(s) with holiday theme since the festive season is ahead. I hope these will bring some good results.

There's too much going on within each page. I am totally overwhelmed by the huge amounts of peachy orange, and large number of little side boxes. People don't come back because they didn't find what they were looking for, and that might be because the site is visually oppressive.

Thin it down a bit. Choose a more clear colour scheme (think about colour blind people...), and reduce the information on each page. Make the navigation more obvious, and easier to follow. Give each page a clear title and purpose so that users know where they are, and why.

You need to simplify your pages. Have you ever read the the book
Dont Make Me Think by Steve Krug? It is a classic guide for website usability. I think it would help.
