Traffic drop would due to many reasons. For news blogs, I think keeping them up to date with attractive, niche relative news would be top issue.

    All the best,

If your traffic from Google has been decreased a lot and this situation continues for some days, Its Google Sandbox and your site has been penalized by Google.
Please tell me what did you do in last months for your website? Any blackhat method? Please explain it for me that i can help you. You can send me private message that i can help you faster.

Does anyone know what really happened in the Mayday update? I know long tail traffic was affected, but I would like to know why some pages/websites are affected and some not. My guess is that the low quality websites with little content may have more problems than others.

Apart from the common dropped due to new status, I would recommend you make an on-going progress and do not stop your current seo effort. Most peoples do stop because of panic on the on-going things but it could make them wasted later. You have to be patient and consistency when it comes to seo with Google.
