Theres nothing wrong with giving the expiration date, it is generally required to process a payment.

To do a credit card transaction - at least the number and the expiration date is needed (even though the exp date is not checked at the transaction platform or MasterCard level). They might even require you to give them the 3-digit number on the back.

But now the question is, how is he paying money to your Visa card? Usually you need an Internet Payment Service Provider or a merchant account

Technically speaking, you cannot transfer funds from one credit card to another. You need a merchant account and a payment processor to enable that to happen. So basically, you be paying to a payment processor and he may be able to withdraw to his bank account.

When doing a payment via a credit card, the name, card number and expiration date would be important to complete a standard credit card transaction. Some may even require the CVV number which is the last 3 digits printed on the signature strip at the back of your credit card.

Do not just give your credit card details over the phone or face to face just like that. Make sure it goes through a payment processor. Best that the other parties do not know anything about it.

As much as that is all the details you need to complete the transaction, he could use those information to make purchases online with what you provide.

As a precaution, always check your online statement for your credit cards to make sure that there is no unusual transaction.

perhaps it is a debit card, but you can't pay Credit card to credit card
    for most transactions you need
    -type of card
    -number of card
    -expiration date
    - CVV number
