FireFox has suffered a major Virus Attack (I guess) today while browsing and as a result of which I lost my browsing history as well as all the data I have gathered since I have installed it. I have no words to say what might have happened to it. One thing to be noticed is, I downloded and installed many extensions and themes that could probably be the source of that virus. Has any one there suffered this attack too? FireFox is not still matured enough like IE to cope with these Security vulnerabilities and there are still some rooms for improvement. Can any one explain me this strange thing and how can I restore my lost data? Thanks
Well, technically, Firefox has far less vulnerabilities than IE (mainly ebcause they haven't been discovered yet) but that's another story. For some reason, if Firefox gets closed for any reason other than the usual methods (alt+F4, clicking close, etc) then you'll lose your history, etc. Also, if installing a theme did, well, there you go, not all themes/extensions are coded properly.
No my system is all safe. This is just the browser which suffered this attack. However, I have reinstalled my FireFox extensions but, still unable to restore my Favourite folder. :
But, this is not just the browsing history I have lost, also the themes and extensions all have been wiped out. When I try to reopen the page, It generated an error message saying that you cannot use the "default profile". Try another profile to excess the page and then I opened it with another profile.
One of the themes/extensions has a bug in it. I had that problem before. Uninstall Fx and reinstall. Load the extensions, etc one at a time to see which one is the culprit, though that may not always work as it may be a couple of factors working together that caused it (although this method worked for me). If you are using the latest version of Fx, then most themes, etc won't work as they have to be updated, as Fx's coding has changed.
I've had the same thing happen to me in the past with Firefox. Bit of a pain, especially if like me you hadn't done a backup of your bookmarks for a couple of months. As far as I could tell, it was down to browser or system crashes.
