Ok, after searching the web hosting forum... got some deals from my proxy that quite didn't work. Shared on a VPS on my friend that didn't work also.

I finally decided to get my own VPS server from FDC. I'm getting the special pack with unli bandwidth 100Mbit with 30 IP's.

    I have a question though,

What Operating System should I pick? Which one is the best? They offer:
    • Fedora Core 4
    • Fedora Core 5
    • CentOS 4.x
    • Windows 2003

Sorry, newbie in hosting here. Oh yea, if you think FDC is not the best. I would appreciate a suggestion :)

I think centOS will do the job... but I think you need some managed server because you need to administer the server incl. OS by yourself

layered tech would be the best. you need a dedi box. your proxies won't be able to live, even on that special package. If you are gonna go ahead with it, centOs is your best bet.

yeah i also think CentOS is quite good..most hosts nowadays use that but getting unmanaged could give you hard time..especially if you dont know much about Linux..

Unmanaged really isn't that hard. I mean, i have no clue about linux, but with google at my side, i was able to conquer the FDC VDS .

I would suggest that you get managed though, since you said you didn't like WHM. You need to set up name servers, and stuff like that, and the support that they have charges you money to do things in the software. Luckily I never paid.

sure right you can learn that, but without any help its is very hard. I'm very happy that I can ask for help sometimes.

just imagine you need to tweak the apache config for your proxies and can't find the right httpd.conf file ;)

i got a friends VDS setup at godaddy..wasnt that hard setting up the name servers..

its good they reinstall the OS free...cent os..thats what many people use..and its not hard if you got WHM/cpanel..thats the best ..i prefer that over DA and Helm, plesk..
