I'm currently in the need of a bad upgrade at a social networking website I own! I'm getting an error saying something about a capacity try again later! Specifically with the images I'm hosting at blog websites! I have profile badges and images that many bloggers have on their blogs! That and the visits I have been getting lately I think it's time to move away from godaddy or at least upgrade to their Virtual dedicated server deal! I get 500 gig bandwidth, 256 meg dedicated ram and 500 gig storage! Should I be looking else where or is this a decent deal? Also I know nothing about server software am I in over my head? I seriously feel like I'm drowning right now!
Get a managed VPS so you do not have to worry about dealing with server software/hardware/network. You can use it just like shared web hosting this way but you'll have dedicated resources. I personally can recommend http://www.wiredtree.com.
This company offers a managed VPS for 44 a month I think godaddy is a little cheaper isn't it? I can't spend more than I'm making can I? This company does look very appealing! Would I be able to create a database easily and run install script or insert sql files? Set my website up and not the server? This is the DEAL I'm looking at now with godaddy! This is in no way a referral link I simply navigated the website to this page! As you can see the Virtual dedicated server is far cheaper.
The server is managed, they take of all technical aspects for you which is why it costs more but it sounds like you need the managed aspect. Yes you can do all these things. You would not have to worry about server setup/security/failures/etc. All you do is build your site and WiredTree takes care of it. I have no idea if GoDaddy offers managed support but you should ask. I have not read good reviews about their hosting service and would personally never place a website of mine on their servers.
Seems after reading this the set up is overall pretty easy! http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=355497 And they are even saying godaddy VPS are good so I will go with godaddy! Thanks for the info I might be back with more questions haha!
