Actually they protested without violence. http://www.southparkstudios.com/show/display_episode.php?season=9&id1=914&id2=143 http://www.boingboing.net/2006/01/09/south_park_bloody_ma.html Personally, as a Catholic, besides insulting Christ, insulting Mary is as offensive as it gets. However, I think that the Catholic League and others responded in the correct way. Without using violence they voiced their opinion. Obviously their was the concept of boycott looming in the horizen, but it didn't come to that. Thank God for free speech, I say.
Don't watch Comedy central if you don't like Comedy? Free Speech means the right to make fun of anyone. Look at The Boondocks for example.
We must burn buildings now!! cut off the heads of the media!!! death to the the U.S.!!! And death to the jews too!!! The jews are behind the entire thing!!!
So that's all I'm allowed to do? I don't have the right to protest? Free speech means the right to tell Comedy Central that it angers me and I won't be watching their station anymore. I'm against legislation, but for using the free market to express my opinions!
Protest free speech then. I don't give a shit. Go march against them having the right to say what they please. Go march against Comedy Centrals freedom of speech! Fucking people kill me.
If one doesn't like a commercial product, then one is free to show that distaste. It has nothing to do with "protesting free speech." They have every RIGHT to say what they said and do what they did. You're the one that told me to simply "not watch it" if I didn't like it. I'm saying I have the right to do more than just ignore. BTW, with a rude attitude like yours, it's no surprise your political forum is empty. Try being a little more civil. It goes a long way!
Exactly, protesting the companies right to express their opinion is what it all boils down to is it not? Alright Sheehan. Maybe its just me but the TV doesn't tell you what to watch and if you do not like what is being shown on one channel you simply change it? When you protest you challenege freedom of speech and you are telling me i have no right to view this by attempting to take it off. Thanks for the site evaluation sweet heart. I guess the website only being up 4 months has nothing to do with the activity level. I would like you to point out one place on my site where I was rude to someone.
Looks like a decent forum actually. I would sign up but I'm new to this whole real time political debate thing. I'm not ready for a political forum yet, need to get my feet wet here first =D I'm used to just bitching and moaning under my breath. All my friends could give a shit about anything except "bitches, weed, and parties" so I dont talk about it much elsewhere. Although I listen to sirius news all day. Except FOX, you know fox decided they didnt want their news to be brodcast on sirus? Weird. So now they are only on XM.. =X
I think some jokes about Jesus are offensive, others are not. People get too excited over little things. Some jokes are very meanspirited and there I can understand the demonstrations. But not when the jokes are plain silly.
What gets me is some idiot-Christians who tell people: diss jesus and I kick your ass. I've known some of them, the type that just got out of prison and discovered Jesus while being locked up.
The worst thing is when you ask them why the Bible is true. The answers are often more of a disservice to the Bible "You have to believe cause I was a drug addict and Jesus healed me". lol
So if I don't like something I should just "shut up and take it." Yeah right. If I find something offensive, I don't think there's ANY problem or anything wrong with telling someone it upsets me. I guess if it were up to you, dissenting opinions should just keep their mouths shut. Comedy Central is in the business of making money, and if a large enough section of their customer base informs them that they're not happy with the brand because of certain material, then they're going to change their programming. They want to know these things. I'm guessing if National Geographic started running a bunch of pro intelligent design shows, the scientific community would be up in arms and "protest" or "dissent". HOW DARE THEY!!! Sorry about the jab at your forum, those are good numbers for 4 months! Sometimes I get a litle hot under the collar when the talk turns patronizing.
Do you not see my arguement on how you are protesting free speech? I do not understand why you want to make such a big deal out of something you are not required to watch. If you were required then I can see you having a case. Why bother if you do not have to watch it? Same question as above. If you simply do not watch it and enough people feel the same way you do then they will drop the program. However it is still not a requirement to watch this said show.
Well, from the screenshots it didn't look offensive? It looks like a statue of Mary squirting blood at some guy? Personally, I think that the world is getting too politically correct. That's why I like comedy, they're able to laugh at taboo subjects, sexuality, race and religion. By that logic, a company can get away with doing something extremely offensive without any comedy value, if it only offends a small amount of 'their customer base'? I must also say that you're entitled to protest against it if you want, I don't think anyone should stop you. It also shows how different religions have different mentalities Comedy Central airs a national? TV show to millions of viewers and offends Catholics, Catholics hold a peaceful protest and the cartoon is taken off air. A cartoon is drawn in a Dutch newspaper and offends Muslims, Muslims hold international riots, 5 or more people are killed by the rioters. In protest, more newspapers/magazines publish the material.
