Has anybody got any experience of this or can offer there thoughts? A client of mine is seriously considering having a game written to drive high volumes of traffic to a new site that is being developed by us. I've never been convinced by this sort of approach myself but wondered if any had experience of this. Does it actually work? Do the high traffic figures actually turn into clients? The market is for secured loans and is a UK based site. Any advise or comments would be appreciated.
You probably don't drive high volumes of traffic, but viral traffic is constant... I know that, because I had little experience.
The trouble I have with viral marketing is getting it started. Even if you have something that may be viral, you have to get it to some people first.
I have had high response from viral marketing. The simple meaning of viral marketing is a system that allows others to tell their friends about the system and reward them for doing so. Myspace and Squidoo use word of mouth viral marketing. My programs have affiliate links so that members who refer new members into the programs get rewards and cash. Viral marketing is as simple as setting up a tell a friend script after someone opts into your program. I have an example of that here: www.newway2surf.com/truth.html
John is right. It can be as simple as tell your friend link on your site to elaborate multimedia and facebook applications. But the difficult part is to reach a critical mass before it really takes off.
In my opinion viral marketing is only good if... Your virus is related to what you are selling. For example a free version of a full application. But in my experience... I do know it works... and it is a great way of getting traffic.
Thanks for those comments. I'll advise the client accordingly. They are probably going to have a game developed and marketed. Its very expensive (quote is about £20k) but hopefully it will be worth it.
They are looking to go to Tamba for the game and viral marketing. We are designing the websites to go around it. Tamba have quoted around 20k. There are examples on their site.
Well, i can give you some advice for viral marketing, GO WITH THE TREND, Example: Britney Spears Make a Game / Movie that Relates to your "Secured Loan" and "Britney Spears" but DON'T put her name in there, just make a snuffle name of "Breat Knee Spee Ears" (or else you're gonna get sued), and make some crazy game out of it, or video of her buying secured loans the funny way~ Well, just a thought
You can be much more viral with something less than a full game. Game appeal can be very narrow. Develop something with a more mass appeal. Shave Britney's Head Not a Cat Toy Something people can customize or easily add to comments
Thanks for those. I like it. I didn't really understand much about viral marketing but i'm beginning to now.
Hence the post above. Youtube and other sites like are great for that. Many of people have gotten discovered off sites like that...if its good it spreads like wildfire, even to TV like the E show and Daily Show..and maybe even Leno (sp?) But it has to be good...\ Good Luck
once you get the virus infecting others, the growth becomes exponential. as others said, you need to infect others in a meeting place of many people thus the 'virus' is able to be transmitted to others
PM me if you would like to see the perfect example of Viral Marketing on steroids. Live links are not yet available to me, but I would love to help This will amaze you
People love funny videos. Make a funny commercial for the site, if it does well, make it a series. The best part about this you can make them cheaply, real cheaply. Then post it on Youtube, Break, Collegehumor..... Just an idea, good luck!
