Imagine that you actually thought to do this and instead of just being about you, it was about your website or brand: http://i.imgur.com/LU0UQ.jpg well if the current reddits are any indicator your website would be getting some serious attention right now and your brand would be on the top of savvy consumer minds. but how do you come up with a viral campaign that can mimic the success of some of the internets greatest memes? people on the internet are looking for 4 things. porn, information, products, and something to distract them from work/school. So most of us create information websites, try to sell products, attempt to make distracting websites or.. of course go into pornography. 90% of viral objects on the web including; news, images, and video do only one thing - they distract us. These entertaining little things keep our days going whether it be harvesting your crops on FarmVille, laughing at images on reddit, playing games at newgrounds or watching videos on youtube the most viral objects are all distracting. They do not sell, they dont push, and they are not overtly informative. The best viral objects on the internet are unique, quick, and funny, lighthearted or scary. For example the Piano Stairs video which was sponsored by Volkswagen. The video had little to do with cars... in fact it had nothing to do with cars. It simply showed the brand entertaining people on the internet with a viral video clip that they could put their name on at the end. So how do you come up with a viral campaign? Well there are really two ways to go. You can think about what your business does and how society sees it. For example the Ruby Tuesdays implosion "accident". The company was set to blow up an 'old style' Ruby Tuesday restaurant, the last of its kind, to usher in a new era of design separating themselves from the "sameness" in the casual dining industry. Instead the demolition crew blew up their neighbor Cheeky's BBQ. The whole thing was a stunt to highlight how new and different the new Ruby Tuesday restaurants were. There as cuellvar's mobile homes. They created an "Epic and Honest" mobile home commercial that spread like wildfire across the internet. The video made fun of trailer homes and took a lighthearted look at the buyers. Or you could take the entertaining route. Again the piano stairs is a great example or the image I started this out with. Don't make this anything about your business, your brand or your competitors. these are just to be entertaining. This viral technique should also be unique. Well there you go. Start thinking, get creative, and get viral!
Yup you are very much right we make websites to distract people from the real thing. The more we distract the more we gain. I mean we eventually get some loyal visitors. Which we all need
