Viral marketing is word of mouth marketing, The best sort in my book. It's free and can continue for a long time. People are referred by people they know/trust so your offer is less likely to be scrutinized by skeptics. It works best of course if your viral campaign actually has something to do with your website/offer. A funny video branded with an irrelevant url is just going to give you a high bounce rate.
Viral marketing is a very powerful thing. Look at what Google has become due to viral marketing, i.e. word of mouth. They almost never advertized themselves in traditional media as other dot coms did. They just did some smart partnerships early on such as providing search services for Yahoo during 1998-2000 and AOL, so it gave them a big boost. We should learn from them too.
Hi, in today online world, I can see that Viral marketing is much more than just word-to-mouth. I can say it's re-branded as word-to-moth just with the degree of online. Some latest examples that I have seen around are Firefox and free download manager. They both use the "spread the word" method, but online and by my opinion - it boosts their traffic, downloads and users. What is your opinion on this one? Regards

Hi, It usually works that way. You see on Yahoo it is written in years now: The best free email in the world. In every message you send it adds at the end a message from Yahoo. Viral Marketing is never going to die. Newspapers are the best example of Viral MARKETING. For example, remember the "YO-YO" craze? The toy that everyone wanted..same with POKEMON!
It also happened with this game that I cannot remember the title at the moment. It become a HIT in Europe and the States in couple of months period. The 10x10 board game where we have to fill all the fields with the numbers from 1 to 10 and neither 1 field can have duplicate number. Regards
yea it's great. noting is more credible than a friend referring something to you. It says so much more than paid advertising where you just tell them how good you are. With viral marketing their friends are giving you their seal of approval.
