Violation of TOS? Using overflow:hidden

    I know that the adsense link units (html code) cannot be modified in any way. However, just wondering if using oveflow:hidden to hide parts of the code primarily concerning the search unit. I.E. iconscripts.com and msmods.com having only the search box but no radio buttons beneath. I never messed with the google code just used

    <div style="overflow:hidden;height:whateverpx;">

    *Untouched Google Adsense for Search Code*

    </div>

    I haven't been in any trouble from this and they keep paying me so I think it's fair game. It's kinda working around it a little ... is it too much of a risk to be doing? Google has not replied...

    Read the TOS and Adsense Blog.

    I've seen guys do this kind of trick for years, nothing have ever happened to them.

    But "better safe than sorry", right?

    Yeah your right but, technically I never modified the G code and they haven't complained. They keep sending my payments. Think of it this way, the search is kinda nothing to them b/c when searching the ads are placed in the "search" page. So you really don't make any revenue from them submitting the search form. right?

    It's more than modifying code in the TOS/Policies. There is also the part about obscuring the ads/search box. Funny, though, I don't even HAVE radio buttons on my adsense searches, am I missing something about what you're trying to do or explain?

    I've removed the radio buttons from my search and have had it like that for 6months and haven't had any problems. I'm guessing they won't be too harsh on the search box but it's more to do with the editing of advert javascript code.

    The radio buttons to search the web or your site for example.

    [ Search Box Here ][google search]
    Oweb Oyoursite.com

    I wouldn't delete, touch, or modify the Actual Google code they gave you man... They can view page source and see if the code is changed... However I heard there not too strict on the adsense for search only if you have modified the way the search comes and only 1 "link" unit is allow not "content" unit.

    I'm just worried b/c the quarries I get are pretty hefty but you don't make money from the search itself, just the link results in the search page. I still think it's fair game since the source code shows that the code google provided isn't modified. Google still hasn't replied, maybe they will be updating the TOC! lol

    Adpubster - do you think most of the TOC is for the adsense for content itself? I looked over and over, searched every thread on the net to see if hiding the radio buttons is ok but the search defaults searching my site instead of web. You don't even have the radio buttons!!! I'm so confused!

    You can get rid of them when you create the search box code, it's an option. It's a lot safer doing it that way than by violating TOS/Policies :)

    Yes but the point is, I want them to find stuff on my website and not on the web! :D The whole point is to not violate the policy and to not actually go and delete some parts of the google code like the dude above (sorry couldn't remember alias so your dude for now)... Doesn't the search forms look good? like iconscripts.com I don't want valuable visitors to be wandering off into the web finding a better site then mine lol but instead to search my site instead. I still haven't received answers from G!!!!

    Directly from their Policies.

    Obscure means, hidden, not visible, hard to find... I think your right... I want to be safe and I'm going to replace the code however, once I get information from google. I'll post the reply.

    Recent entry in Inside AdSense.
    Best not do anything to the code at all I think - steer well clear.

    The search box wasn't really doing much for my site so I got rid of it now just to be safe. No point getting myself banned over nothing.

    I think you need to check the rest of the TOS :) Especially the part about obscuring any of the Google stuff!
