Views and CTR Question

    All,

My site used to do really well with adsense, but lately it's taken a downhill dive. Does more ad units on a page dilute the CTR, so to speak, as I'm sure I used to do much better with less units?

    Thanks in advance!

It shouldn't dilute the CTR it should increase it. It's believed to decrease the overall earnings though.

If you get unique traffic more, then it's good for you but if you get repetitious traffic, then forget it. The CTR is very low if it's repetitious traffic.

It supposedly decreases earnings because lower paying ads creep into the pages when yopu have more of them.

Andrew, there isn't actually a single answer to this question. Adding more ad units could make your CTR fall, it could make it rise. It could cause your earnings to fall but it could also cause them to rise. And, of course, things could stay the same.

Without knowing your site and your current Adsense implementation it's impossible to estimate which situation might affect you. For example, if you only had one ad unit tucked away at the bottom of the page and you added another front and centre then your CTR and earnings would almost certainly rise. If you already had two or three units in reasonably positions and you add another one then you may well see things fall (although this isn't guaranteed).

Above all else, bear in mind how additional units affect the look and feel of your site. Adding more might cause ad blindness or put the ads in less 'clickable' positions.

There are lots of factors and a single line answer can't cover them all.

if you get the same traffic as before then you don't have to worry about it!

Link units are the worse performing ones on my page. It's different for everyone.
