Videoegg: a good alternative to Youtube

Youtube is the biggest video-hosting and sharing site so if you are looking for massive exposure and potential Internet fame, then it is the site to use and to optimise your videos for.

However, if you are using video as a tool to enhance your blog's content, then I feel that Videoegg is a better option.

The biggest reason is that Videoegg doesn't compress the video that you've uploaded which is compressed already, any further. So if you decide to show a high-bandwidth video shot at 30fps then you can. With Youtube, a video that may look good on your PC/Mac may end up looking pixelated to hell once you've uploaded it.

I realised this only this weekend when I bought a new camera which produces video files in MOV rather than AVI. I had to convert the MOV to AVI so that I can use Windows Movie Maker on them - a slight loss of quality as a result. Then WMM would compress the final product as well.

I deliberately chose the lowest level of compression in both steps but it didn't matter that I max out the file size to 100MB, it still ended up looking like crap on Youtube.

So yeah Videoegg is now my preferred site to use. Any of you guys have similar experiences?

Videoegg would be a better alternative if you're only targeting the viewers on your site...you won't get as much traffic from videoegg, but it will allow you to please your current readers or visitors

Youtube videos, although crappy, can become viral in youtube and send traffic to your site.. it's a question of whether you are tyring to be viral or please your current readers. It depends a lot on your niche.

They are working with some well established sites on the market. And they have a pretty impressive portfolio, I should say.

Yes, I agree that video is intended to please and satisfy the visitor, but at the same time it conveys a more credible message to the viewers.

If you read about something you would say, might be true, might not, who knows.

People not only hear about the topic but they can also see the real deal in action when watching a video.

@shuttle: yup for the sake of us who like using videos in our blogs, I hope their business is sustainable because I am really glad to have found out about them. :)
