well I use camtasia for video editing and recording but it'S not for free....

I use:
Moyea FLV to Video Converter Pro for flv files ($40)
Virtualdub + AVS scripts for avi files

Another free tool would be to use ffmpeg. I personally haven't used it because I haven't needed to and it's more complex to use, but if you're looking for a free program check that one out.

Make sure to read the documentation on it.

I use windows media movie making

 

Ulead VideoStudio works wonders for me.

 

I use Camtasia Studio 5, it works pretty well and bought home some nice cash from it

What can you do with Windows Media Movie Maker?

I see that we have it with Windows XP and Windows Vista

 

Camtasia Studio 6 has been released already. Just downloaded and used it, not too bad. Give it a try!

In my opinion, Ulead products are not so good, because I have used a couple of them, and now I can't uninstall them, quite frustrating. Tried contacting Tech support, but still have not received response from them.
