Video Solution - NOT just Flash!

Hello, and thanks for being patient with a new member.

Basically, I'm using Joomla (for articles, forum, etc.) and I need a video solution. I don't like any of the native existing video components, so I could have a professional coder bridge the applications. Because I'm working with more high-end users, I need to support files types in addition to Flash. Specifically, I need MPEG and Quicktime (.MOV) at a minimum. DiVX would be a big plus. There are so many 'Tube-clones, yet none I could find appeared to be able to handle the MIME types I need.

I tried Gallery 2, and I do love the functionality, it also has too much of everything I don't need (and can be a bit of a RAM hog, too). Not to mention the code base is a bit of a mess (with Smarty added for a nice touch of complexity).

Is there a true video solution out there that can handle more than just Flash? Does such a thing exist? Or, is there a good, solid solution that can be easily modded to accept additional video types?

NOTE: Sorry - forgot to add that this has to support members/multiple users.

Thanks in advance for the help!

You could check out TopMediaScript, which does indeed include support for mpeg, mov, rm, wmv as well as swf/flv flash videos

Move info and details of a discount for DP members can be found at the link in my sig.

If you have any questions feel free to drop me a PM =)

I think you could use ffmpeg to convert all thos video types to flv before using a youtube clone script.

    Hi,

The latest flash player does support mpeg and mov, so "an updated flash designer" can build you a video player that handles mpeg and mov in addition to flv.

One problem at this time is that the latest version of the player has not yet penetrated enough and thus your visitors may need to download it before being able to use this functionality.

I haven't dealt with joomla before but I can build such a player in flash.

    Regards.

Sorry I was away for so long... not like me to abandon a thread I started.

I did not know there was such a player. Essentially, using this new player would cover all the movie types my site will support.

Silly question from a relative noob, but can this new player handle pure audio? If not, what would you recommend? Specifically, I need at least MP3.

Oh... I am looking for a Joomla developer who can develop an audio/video component for me. I basically like Seyret, but it needs tweaking. If anyone is up for it, could you please contact me? Thanks!

Tell you what... let me find a Joomla programmer who can implement this, and I'll give you a shout. ;-) Just bug me again in a week or so if I haven't already contacted you about it.
