Hey Guys, I'm going to be launching a nice specific video sharing website. It's my first video sharing website and I thought I would ask what kind of server I'd need If anyone would be kind enough to answer. What kind of server would I need if: a) I have 10k uniques per mo. (333~ uniques/day) b) I have 100k uniques per mo. (3333~ uniques/day) c) I have 1M uniques per mo. (33,333~ uniques/day) I'm guessing that for a) I would be ok with a shared server as for b) and c) I'm pretty sure I would have to go dedicated however I'm not sure of the specs I'd need ... Thanks !
Basically depends on what length videos . you will need a dedi or u can try a ffmpeg based shared host to start and see how things goo
b) If you are using nginx/apache proxy setup, a quad core can handle. c) If you are using nginx/apache proxy setup, a dual quad core can handle. having said these, it would greatly depend on the nature of the video like length, quality etc. If the number of video uploads is more, then the conversion process to flv is lengthy and server load will also be increased. I would recommend you to start with VPS and then determine the spec needed for (b) and (c) as you go!!
