Video on website

I am going to be ripping some scenes from a DVD. Yes, I have permission from the manufacturer. The DVD comes with a product we sell.
I want to put a small piece of the DVD on my website for viewing.

However, I don't want it to be easily copied and put on someone elses website. I know nothing is fool proof. What is the best way to do this and what is the best way to display the video on the web page?

    Thanks

There's no 100% solutions -- even streams can be ripped (google "stream rip")
But you can put site's url in the video (watermark it), so you'll be getting free promotion from leechers)

The water mark may be the best idea. I like the idea of free advertising.:D

No video is save, unless you make it a video that requires authorization (such as some pay sites do these days, most adult ones), I suggest to add your logo on top of it. As streaming software I recommend Flash Video, there is a function in Flash 8 pro that allows you to transform any movie into a *.flv file. You can also use quicktime pro to create a mov file or (free) windows software to create a Windows Media Player Stream.

Streaming is not safe, it is bypassable. The authorization feature is not safe either, the previous version of it was cracked and im sure this one will be too.

Best way to go is to use macromedia director to embed it into a dir file.

Flash files can be decompressed, however director files cannot be as of yet.

If yoy have a nice vector of your logo ... put it on the center of your video .. with considerable size and .... reduce it's transparence to 20 or 25, so much that it doesnt disrupt your video ...thts it ...
    @tech86 ... a question ....
Macromedia director files requires you to have the Shockwave Plugin right ???
Well if that is so ... Shockwave is not as famous as flash and may disrupt the website if the user doesnt have it ...
So i'd suggest converting it to flv and streaming it live from the site ...
those are my 2 cents ...

Flash can be decompiled, and the source can be seen. After which I have seen tools that can grab the streaming video and convert it to a mpg or avi file.

I recommend VideoCharge to add logo or watermark on videos.

From one of your other responses, it sounds like cost is a concern too. There are several excellent suggestions in this thread, and I would echo those that include streaming (Flash, Real, Windows, Quicktime).

You just need to be at peace with the fact that if you can view it, it can be stolen. Just make that a bit tough to do (like a lock on a door or dog in the house) and add your url/logo so if (or when) that takes place you may at least get some benefit out of it. Locks don't stop all thieves, just the busy cautious ones.

In fact, you may want to make a copy and send it to google video just to get some promo out of it - heavily laced with your url/graphic, of course.

This is viral (not virus) marketing 101.

    Good luck!

well, I would suggest presentavid - after you rip a video from dvd - import it in presentavid - make a logo and then export in any format you need (including flash stream, or anything like this). also give it a try its free testing.;)

    I would choose flash...

Make the movie as a .flv-file included with watermark which will be loaded in another main-movie. The main-movie has to have included a small script which checks in the .swf-file are run online or offline. If it's offline the .swf close itself...

So... if someone wants to get your movie... they'll first have to download your mainmovie, look at the source to find the url to your .flv-movie (your real movie) and try to download this... Not bulletprof... but those how want to grab the movie will have to do 2-3-4 steps to get the movie... After that... they'll have a movie included with your watermark...
I'll bet not many try to get all steps for getting a movie with watermark in it...
