    Today they showed that the Luge course has changed for the men to prevent this. The changes include: the male lugers now start at the female starting point, and the part of the track where this Luger went off track now has a large wall hopefully preventing anymore deaths.

    even if their was, it wouldn't have saved him. But if their wasn't pole there then he would have most likely survived
