video converter

    Hi guys!

    I have some .avi files that are of great quality but the file size is kinda big for the web (~12 mins = 160 mb). Does anybody know of a good and free video converter that can reduce the size of the files and still keep them in a relative quality and in sync with the sound? (the extension must be .avi or .wmv)

    I would appreciate it if you could recommend me some converters that you have previously used and were good :)

    I'm not sure, if you are on Windows I think Windows Movie Maker outputs in .wmv and .avi as far as I can remember, however i'm unsure whether it can input other exstensions.

    As a word of warning be careful when downloading free convertors as i've noticed many are ridden with adware and spyware.

    For the web, Flash is good, suggest you convert your avi movie to swf or flv, maybe flv is better, for flv has a high compress rate and keep the quality of the movie and is specially suitable for Internet delivering.

    Just as wd_2k6 said, I wonder your are using Windows, personally I use the free Moyea video4web converter to convert video to flash video, I have used it for three month and it works fine(so it is not a adware or spyware). But if you are using Mac, you can google search with the words "video to flash for Mac". Good luck!

    I'm on windows, but I need the extension to be .wmv or .avi so no .flv.
    I've tried the Windows Movie Maker and it's not that good...

    Any other suggestions?

    From what you said, I think the best way is to compress them with DivX.

    i think total video converter will be very useful to convert and reduce the size try total video converter

    I have tried total converter and it ROCKS! :D I managed to reduce a file by 55% and still keep it in great quality!

    some of them are only trail versions available in internet.
