video clips in an online journal

apologies if elements of this have already been discussed.

I'm planning to set up a british online academic journal relating to cinema studies. The aim of the journal is to publish papers that will be closer to the format used in conferences whereby video clips can be used to illustrate points made in the written material.

My big concern is whether or not this will be legal.

The journal will be academic, not for profit and completely uncommerical (we would hope to have enough funding, and maybe host it on our university website, so that there will be no need for advertising).

We will only ever show short clips, maybe 5 min total, to illustate a point rather than showing an entire copyrighted work.

Has anyone ever heard of something similar that's been done before? Is this feasible or will we constantly be infringing copyright?

thanks in advance for any help
