Video Ads

This is not so much a request for a specific site review, but a general question on video-sharing places...

I was thinking of displaying ads in the videos on my site a la Youtube, both before the video plays and while it plays at the bottom of the screen. I see a lot of other video-sharing sites doing the same thing.

(Mini-rant: I don't know if they still do this, but Dailymotion used to be the worst at this. They'd load a 30-second spot before most of their videos, many of which weren't 30 seconds in run time to begin with. And God help you if you refresh a video page or want to replay a video, because you'll see the same spot all over again...)

So share your thoughts: Do you find this kind of advertising off-putting or - as I suspect is the case with most viewers - does it not matter? Personally, I've always found those kinds of ads a little irritating, and prefer to serve the ads on my own site at the side/top/bottom of the page (and not in the video).

But if I can't beat 'em, maybe I need to join 'em (with moderation)...
