I have been reading a lot about how online video ads are getting better ROI compared to TV commercial. A few days back one article in The Wall Street Journal caught my interest where quite a lot was said about the phenomenon of online video ads and how companies like Jivox are providing free platform to small and medium sized business to come up with video ads. This is very inspiring that start ups and smaller companies can cash on this ongoing boom without having to stretch their budget. However, do you think that online video ads will be able to replace TV commercial as the mainstay of advertising?
I believe that online video commercials are going to be absolutely necessary for small businesses. It's such a powerful visual tool to reach out to potential customers. It's not a question of "do you want a video?" it's "what are you doing without a video?"
They can be a nuisance, voxant/newsroom and adbrite are two from the top of my head that have video ad's. Newsrooms ad's display for about 10 seconds before the actual clip, quite annoying - especially when webmasters have 2 players on same page on autoplay. If it was going to be that great of a success - don't you think that the large sites would be taking advantage of this .... ie. Google/Youtube.
Yes they're definately going places. The key difference between online video ads and tv ads is that viewers are actively engaged in online videos compared to the "ad break" on tv where viewers tend to mentally switch off. Additionally, online ads can even overlay video content and be actively "clicked", which is a huge advantage.
Absolutely! I think- we definitely need to switch from untrackable marketing activities such as newspaper, magazine, TV, and radio to online marketing and online video advertising, especially, for smaller companies which are in food, wine, or beer space, and that desperately need local presence.
I guess video ads can be a nuisance if they are not done well and are out of context. Cos need to make their video ads fun so folks don't mind a 10-sec slice of entertainment. I guess it also helps if they are short. as I researched this, found cos like camtasia and jivox that let SMBs create videos for free but charge them for distribution. the upside is this lets SMBs play video ads on sites like yahoo without paying too much
