I have asked this question before as well, but still confused.

I want to start working on illustrator, i don't know if i should join a institute and take some classes for that or video tutorials are enough to get started.

My aim is to learn it for printing , identity designing logo etc.

    Let me know
    Regards

yes..that's the best so far..but if you want to learn about arts and how the designs stands out and what are the elements that must have in quality design or something like that..

I think that you should attend art class...:)

I'd start doing some basic Illustrator tutorials for little things that are interesting (just do a Google search they are everywhere)--vector characters and mascot tutorials are very fun (for me anyway)--and you'll pick up on things here and there that you can take from.

That's exactly what I did and now I'm pretty good at Illustrator... and have since moved onto the free Inkscape (I like how coloring vectors works MUCH better in Inkscape).

You can follow tutorials online, classes can be good but depending on the size of the class you may not get out of it exactly what you need. Follow a couple of tutorials, get used to using Illustrator and if you get stuck, post a message on here and i'm sure we'll all help you. The best way to learn is practice, practice, practice! Good luck.

best way to learn is practice, do it as much you can.
No tutorial can teach you more then what you learn with your practice.
But yaa read some articles about tools in Illustrator.

I would recommend a book like the illustrator quick start guide. If you can afford to go to school take a computer graphic design course.

That's true... I leaned photoshop by doing many, but many tutorials. Sometimes, when I don't know to do an effect, I start looking again for tutorials...

The same way I learned Illustrator. You can see my bookmarks at delicious.com/mrjavo, tagged as webdesign, webdev, reference..

    Greetings

There is nothing wrong with joining an institute and or taking some classes, but in my experience you will learn more from practice, video tutorials & lynda.com courses are among the best out there.

There are thousands of tutorials online for free. It will take you time and dedication. There are many graphic designers nowadays so your competition is high.
