Tropical Cyclone Jal in the Bay of Bengal could intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm (just a notch below super cyclone) and hit Chennai and neighbourhood by Sunday evening or night. The powerful storm remained practically stationary and lay centered 400 km east-southeast of Chennai and 500 km southeast of Nellore on Saturday morning. It would intensify further, move west-northwestwards, and cross North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Nellore close to Chennai by Sunday night. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast over South Coastal Tamil Nadu on both days.
