I run a poker forum that is only PR2 and is on it's way up. However, I have a thread titled "PokerStars Planets" which is a promotion game that the website (largest poker network in the world) PokerStars is running. For the search "Pokerstars planets" our website ranks ABOVE PokerStars and in #1 position. Can anyone explain this?!?! http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=pokerstars+planets&btnG=Google+Search&meta= What makes it more odd is that a keyword tool at www.marketleap.com says that I don't rank in the first 3 pages on ANY search engine for that term.
Not sure why it's ranked but it's a good thing. Your probably not getting much search traffic for that term though.
A major difference is that you use "PokerStars Planets" in your title. They use "PokerStars ............... Planets". Search "PokerStars battle" and you will see they jump to #1. Grouping of keywords is very important. /*tom*/
I notice this thread is already ranking #4 lol. Must be a very easy term. Although I would've thought more people would talk about the promotion seeing as there are about 5 million people that use PokerStars.
link building is the only answer for that and if still not working maybe your website got penalized by google.
But how many people really search for "Pokerstars planets"? I think best if you analyze the popular search terms and optimize them for more search results. Use any good keywords tools for getting suggestion for few effective keywords.
I see you rank #1 on both google.co.uk and google.com (and google.ca). I agree that its likely because your title is "PokerStars Planets" and theirs is "PokerStars - Battle of the Planets". In the body of your page you mention the same term twice, in bold. On the PokerStars website, there is no mention at all of the term "PokerStars Planets", so Google's already doing a good job to figure out that "PokerStars Planets" is the same as "PokerStars Battle of the Planets".
BTW, the keyword tool here shows your true #1 rankings at all Google sites http://www.keywordenvy.com/?query_u...tars+planets&googleuk=1&googleca=1&googleus=1
How are you checking your rank? If you're using webmaster tools then....it's probably not true. I've apparantly been front page for "mp3" in 2 google national search engines for 2 months....I can promise you I am not.
this thread will likely outrank everybody before long if you type the words in any more you have to be pretty strong to fend DP off with its big PR7 authority. if you changed the thread titles to add the phrase it would probably be all over.
I've disappeared off the SERPs completely (for the 2nd time) now. What's going on with this crazy ranking? PokerStars Planets is a huge promotion and I'm sure many of the millions of players have posted blogs about it etc. I dont see why I ranked #1.
@danielregwan it's too new of a keyword for seobook to measure it, and niche keywords like this convert like crazy compared to the huge volume keywords that seobook tells you about. Imagine how many conversions he can get from people looking for info on PokerStar's new promotion (although.. anybody who knows about it probably already has an account heh.. ) You can't only chase the huge volume terms..
I think marketleap give ranking reports of your homepage not your internal pages like the one you show here. I see it as no surprise at all. So my expectation that most people doesn't understand seo is true. If you don't experience it yourself it difficult to explain seo. So many conflicting argument regarding seo so if you want to get some ideas about seo do some time researching on SERPS in a lot of terms and you will some the pattern. And there is some new twist in the algo. It related to human behavior and I believe this concept will be seo for the future.
