Now perhaps this has gone on for a long time but i'm not sure. Anyhow I seem to have a problem getting ranking tools to check my google rank so I end up doing manual searches for my reports each week. I retest the ones i'm already ranking for in the top 100 and then used google's advanced search to look for new ranks (within a few of my important phrases). Anyhow while doing an advanced search for the phrase: "health insurance china" which my site previously didn't rank for i was happy to find out that i was ranking in the 20s with not only the page i have targeting that phrase, but with my home page as a supplemental. Thats good and what I would like to see on page 1.. However Later i went back through to the normal 10 links per page search results, and looked for my exact ranking. I couldnt find it between top 10 to top 80.. so i looked at the advanced again sure i had mistyped.. Didn't do that i guess!! So then i went back to regular and looked again, this time i saw right at 21 my site globalsurance at rank 21.. this is fine. There is however no supplemental. This means that when you do an advanced search its either giving you altered results or its adding in additional supplemental results. This test was done in china so the rankings might be a bit different. Also it was done on one computer multiple times.
