I have been reading over many posts and understand so little of the lingo.

When people talk about optimizing sites for search engines, what do they mean? I have a site already made and it has AdSense, how can I optimize it? Sorry if there is already a guide for this; I tried searching.

Also, how do I find out my page rank?

    SEO means many factors

Theres ON PAGE SEO (content/meta tags / seo friendly urls / age of domanis)
Off page (i can say this means 80% of all seo) backlinks get quality one way backlinks with target anchor text

And use the SEARCH afunction and post in corect sections

As said before there are many things to do but I'll add to what's said, never use the same title for all your pages, use text for links and content more than images and flash, avoid frames, use alt tag for images with a good description, avoid iframes specially for site menu and optimize the anchor text for your keywords.

Optimizing involves both on page and off-page optimization.

If you really don't have a clue, just install an SEO-friendly CMS like Wordpress and go from there.

Yes - wordpress is a good place to start (you will need to make a few changes from the default install but it is easily done and you can search to optimize wordpress - this will give you all the info you need to start off).

From there, you will then need to look at continued off-page optimization (as well as producing more content to keep your visitors coming back etc).
