yes, to make it saleable. It has no value without the data table anyway, and that is already a product.

A full version someone uses to redirect any keyword link in to any afliate link based on kw and country is ~40 lines with comments, just the geotargetting part is lless then 1/2 that.

I found a free script that is working fine with just minor tweaking:

    Target Country by IP Address

It comes with an old DB, but most likely sufficient for this purpose. Any comments on the quality of the script from you experienced programmers would be welcome.

I did not understand shoemoney's comment.
I couldn't tell what he trying to say, regarding the dummkopf statement.
I guess I'm a dummkopf. There was nothing "obvious" to me.

So, I took Barre Tires advice and called 1(866)785-2636.
They answered so fast, the phone didn't even ring.

I was told that it was based upon a "preponderance of clicks".
A low percentage of foreign clicks will not hurt you. They will simply be filtered out.
But if you are receiving a HIGH PERCENTAGE of clicks from foreign sources, you may be terminated.
For instance, if your site is built for foreign visitors, or contains a lot of info regarding subjects that visitors in foreign countries would click on, then you are in trouble.
If your site is about US subject matter, you probably don't have anything to worry about.

Sounds logical to me. I think that mjewel is exactly correct in post #9.
YPN, like Adsense is famous for, is providing themselves a lot of "wiggle room" here, as well.
Now, what happens if a competitor decides to "foreign click" you like crazy. Can and will YPN measure and discount this?

I just called their support number and verified the earlier claim that Yahoo does not credit/pay for any traffic from foreign countries. Only USA based traffic is credited, so implementing a geo-targeted ad system should recoup whatever income potential you have from foreign visitors.

This was a very helpful thread.

I just completed making a deal with the company I orginally wrote the geotargeting code for. I will be able to make available a stripped down (us ip's rather then all countries) current database, and some simple add rotating code that uses it for ~$30 with six months updates.

I will need some beta testers in the next day or so also.

So does YPN not count international clicks, as they never make it to the daily balance, or do they count them as normal clicks untill the end of the month, when they are audited?

Does Yahoo still shun international users? I have read of many people forced to use Google because Yahoo doesn't serve their area.

Only in the USA for now. Look for changes to that in 2006.
