    Perhaps they felt sorry for you,
    or maybe someone nearly clicked the button but didn't but did enough to start the counter rolling for $0.01 cent to go up.

    It might be from image ads. Because some advertiser pay for impression not clicks.

    No. Google claims to only show images if they have a history of outperforming all the text ads it would have shown otherwise.

    So if you trust Google, you'll want to show image ads.
