I have a domain example.com and the niche market is Law. The domain is old and ranking very well for all the competitive search terms + it has very Good PR flow. Now, we need to change the company URL to a newexample.com Is there someway we can take advantage of the example.com to transfer the rankings through redirection (which one 301 or 302) or transfer the PR juice?
If the domain example.com is bringing you traffic, maybe you can send that traffic (via some links) to newexample.com or redirect the domain example.com to the new domain newexample.com
You can 301 redirect via .htaccess file all the old URLs to the new URLs on the new domain name and pass over all the link and Pagerank value. You will see a decrease in SERPs for a short period of time while the value transfers over but it will return in due time. Pagerank may take an update or 2.
a 301 redirect will help in the long run with the pr transfer and serps but in the beginning you might experience a drop in serps and no pr
I believe a 302 is more used for temporary redirects. A 301 redirect is the best option for seo. As others have noted, it should pass on the rankings of the old site but it may take some time to come back.
I was thinking about similar solutions like doing 301 redirect (permanent redirect) will transfer the Page Rank in the long term but I will be losing the keywords ranking in Google significantly. How much time should I expect to get things back to normal? .......... and is there any risk of getting ban with doing this..... I think I only need to 301 the homepage, right? .... no need to 301 all the pages ..... what do you people advice? Using a 301 redirect, when someone comes to example.com, I will lose the website shown on example.com and instead it would directly show newexample.com .....
