Hi, Does anyone familiar with verisign secure, how do they work? Does this company also take credit card transactions or just provide security? In order to create a catalog on line for items, are there any free commerce software sites out there? Thanks.
Verisign's Payflow services is an electronic payment gateway (like LinkPoint and Authorizenet.com). You will still need a merchant account to accept credit cards. The electronic payment gateway basically allows your site to connect to the transaction processor / card association to authorize the transaction. Of course you will also need a shopping cart and possibly an SSL certificate as well. Some places offer a shared SSL as well.
Thanks for answering my question. But I need more details. What credit card merchants do you recommend? How much does verisign cost per year? Microsoft provides e-commerce software for building an online catalog, but there is fee, I don't know how much. Do you know of a better place that provide this type of software. Where do you get authentication certificates? Thanks.
Verisign's prices differ per reseller. Verisign is actually offered through Paypal since Paypal bought them out awhile back. As far as providers - it depends on your location, but in the United States, there are thousands of providers to choose from. The largest ISO is Chase / Paymentech, partnered with First Data Merchant Solutions. A lot of the ISOs or agents go through First Data in one way or form and a lot of the gateways uses the First Data platform as the transaction processor. Authentication certificates? Do you mean the new EV SSL?
You mentioned "SSL certificate as well. Some places offer a shared SSL as well." I'm so new to building a web site and step to getting a certificate. Do I need a licence? Please clarify. Also, approximately how much does it cost to build a website that be able to generate a catalog to sell items. Could you please let me know what steps to take to develop a web site? The merchants that accept on line payments, are they responsible for clients credit cards information. For example if a site get hack, etc. Thank you so much for your help.
Yes and no. Depends on what you want. Usually having your own SSL cert is a lot easier to manage (your site). Or you can use Payflow's secure site to capture and process the transactions. Payflow was actually bought by PayPal so they manage the Payflow Services now, not Verisign Cost? You could probably get someone to do it for $100 and you could get people upwards of $50,000. And anywhere in between. Web development costs is something that is highly debatable. Yes and no. It depends on how you integrate into their site. Some merchants store CC data on their website and they might not be CISP compliant. If they are not compliant - they are subject to fines. This is where it comes to good development basically. You want your developer to ensure there are no holes in code that could pose a compromise.
