Verifying someone else's paypal funds

    Hi there,

I would like to know whether there is a way I could verify the authenticity of a paypal account funds. I found an interesting website and the owner sent me a bunch of paypal screenshots but I am not 100% if I could trust those. We keep hearing those horror stories about scams where webmasters pretend to be making big bucks and fake their paypal balance in such a way that everything looks very legit.
I am sure some of you have had a similar experience when trying to buy a website, so I'd like to know what you guys have done/do to prevent getting scammed.

    Thanks a million.

Just don't deal with the people you don't know. I don't believe such sites. Telling the authenticity of a paypal account funds is not possible unless you are some paypal guy :)

I understand that but in life it's impossible to deal with only people you know and you trust!!

Does any know or tried asking paypal whether they can confirm the authenticity of an account's transactions history?

    Cheers.

I think you'll find that someone's financial details, even with an online payment processor, are quite fiercely protected by privacy legislation.

Therefore your potential purchase will have to be done on trust.

Well actually the website owner sent me detailed screenshots and I asked him to hide the names of his customers, so all this is shown are the expenses. so user privacy issues would arise.

Do you think paypal would agree to verify the screenshots? basically all I need is to know if the numbers match. Do you think this is worth trying or should I just forget about it?

Use gotomeeting. You can get a free trial without paying anything. If they host the meeting, then they can give you the ability to see their desktop as they log in to paypal and scroll through account history. That's probably about as close as you will get unless you are able to visit them in person.

It's a shame that paypal doesn't have a feature to address this. With e-gold, a merchant can voluntarily allow others to see their account balance. This isn't reflective of line item transactions, but at least lets you know the total funds in the account.

--GlobalGamingNews-- that's a great idea. Hopefully if the guy is serious about selling, then he should not mind such verification.

Thanks a lot to everyone for their input.

    Cheers.

Also, I'd like to apologize to the mods for bumping the thread, I totally did not read the rules and I'll make sure this done not happen in the future
