Venting Frustration Over GoDaddy

    Hey Guys,

Just a release of frustration, I dunno if anyone else does the tedious task of watching expired domains with PR and purchasing when they drop ..... but now and again I will play around for several hours and see what's floating around.

Today I found a site with an OK PR, but the site still had the age in PR checks - 3 years old - "Sweet" I thought "Maybe it hasn't been dropped in SEs yet" and this domain had a couple hundred backlinks.

So I check the status and availability "Woot" - it's available.

So I purchase the sucker - only to get the "Can't register domain, sorry" it's already registered - we'll try again and if not will issue a refund.

Twice in a week this has happened ... grrrr.

    Thanks,
    Hope it makes sense.

If you are checking via WHOIS note that the WHOIS is time delayed versus the status you get (available or not) when you try to register. Why is this a GoDaddy situation? Are you doing the WHOIS or registration attempt thru GoDaddy? Or are the domains being re-registered by others thru GoDaddy?

I was running several checks with PR detectors etc and running backlink searches - as you do when shopping for dropped domains.

I actually have an account with Godaddy and I just do the normal routine when buying the domains, enter the domain I want and then process through check out, usually if a domain is un available it will tell you so - on these occasions it/Godaddy just processed the domains as available.

In short I went through checkout each time and purchased the domain - not once did it say domain is not available - until I had paid and previously I had waited two days for my domain to appear in my account, thinking it was strange as they usually appear straight away, then I got a similar email "sorry doamin is already registered" we'll try again or issue a refund.

I grab expiring domain lists or some sites will allow you to run a custom search :

http://www.easydeleted.com - allows you to search for dropped or dropping domains.

    or

http://www.wsmdomains.com/ExpiredDomains/ - I don't remember where I got it, but it has lists of expiring domains - huge lists.

For the above one you can grab a pile of the domains and then run a bulk PR check with :

    http://pr.vhx.cc/index.php

Then you'll want to check backlinks and PR etc. with :

    http://www.smartpagerank.com/result.php?domain=

    or similar.
