Vendor Sales and Customer Email Addresses

A question for vendors at clickbank ... or at least informed affiliates too.

I am creating a product to sell and wanted to keep in touch with customers after they purchase so I can follow up and offer additional products and get feedback on my product etc etc etc.

I know when someone buys I can see their email address. Does clickbank allow you to use this to contact the customer and put them on an autoresponder?

Or is this unethical or against clickbanks rules?

If so would I need to have an opt in form on the page after the sale has been made to force them into giving me an email address or to kinda ask them to supply at least?

I am committed to making an a good product and keeping excellent customer relations so wanted to do this right and wanted to know the restrictions and perhaps what works best for others on this topic.

    What I do is this:

I offer a customer contact relations form after they purchase, if they want to keep updated and in touch with me. That is really only the ethical and legal way of doing things. I am pretty sure you can't take their email addresses from your CB account and input that into the autoresponder. You can use many free types of mailing list management software like phpList.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the response.

I think that sounds reasonable. Thanks for the advice, I will probably implement this method and stay on the straight and narrow :)

If they did not intentionally sign up to be on your list then in all likeliness they are not even going to read the mail and offers you send them. But I know from first hand experience there are a lot of people who will just add anyone they come in contact with onto their list. Since they are already a customer of yours it makes it slightly more ok to add them.

I put my optin form after the sale and before the download page but I don't force people to opt in. I have an opt in form and right below it I have a link that says - if you don't want to be updated to new bonuses added to the members are or new offers then click here to go right to the members area.

Most people sign up. But some certainly don't like having a forced opt in after they just purchased something. Having both options keeps every one happy.

    Thanks Mike and everyone else.

I have decided to add an opt in saying I will follow up with more advice and updates.

I also phrase it that if they do this is a VIP program effectively ... Hopefully that will encourage them to sign up and see value in it.

Putting it before they hit the download page is probably a good idea though.
