I am hosting a meeting and barbequing a variety of meats for the guests but I have a few vegetarians attending and I am looking for suggestions as to what I can throw on the grill for them. I tried tofu dogs last year and it wasn't good.

Is there any veggie products you know of that is available in Southern California (Ralph's, Albertson's or Pavilions) that is good on the grill?

My sister, who is a vegetarian, made up these really nice veggie skewer kebab type things. They were just chunks of things like capsicum, tomato, onion, mushroom etc on wooden skewers, marinated in various sauces, like a really spicy chilli one, barbecue flavour, etc. She also had extra of the sauces available so the guests could put more on if they wanted.

Just make sure whatever marinades you use don't have any non-vegetarian ingredients. Also, use vegetable oil on the BBQ, and preferably don't cook near the meat products. Maybe even start with the veggie stuff on a clean BBQ, then move on to meat after you've removed the veggie stuff. True vegetarians will appreciate this consideration.

    Happy Barbecueing! :)

    Just another thought...

You should be able to buy soy based vegetarian fake "sausages", "bacon", schnitzels and burger patties etc., that although not exactly like the real thing have a fair similarity. We can get them here in Australia anyway.

You could cook them as is, or cut up pieces of "sausage" or "bacon" and put them on the skewers, in between the veggie pieces.

Thanks for the replies. Due to time contraints, I think I will look for the Boca burgers. The rest of the suggestions are good but require time, talent or driving (Whole Foods is 14 miles away).

    Thanks.
