There is no biological need for milk really (well, once an adult).....all the nutrients you can get in other foods. think of all the people who can't drink cows milk....and how they had to make products so the body could digest it properly. i drink milk on occasion, but it usually hurts my stomach, but i do eat dairy products....but it is true that all those nutriets can be found in healthier foods.
An argument against dairy products isn't an argument against eating meat, however. Anyone ever see that old movie, Soylent Green? Mmmmm... burgers...
Bwahahahhahaha, as a farm boy I find this quite amaizing. You reckon cows care? Have you ever been around a cow? If you have you'll soon find out that other than feeding us, cows are useless. BTW, cows dont give a f*** whether they live or not. They are not self aware.
Well, I may not be a vegetarian but I do think those statements are both extreme and inaccurate. Cows may not be the sharpest tools in the evolutionary drawer but to say that they lack "awareness" or survival instincts is remarkably wrong.
Dude, seriously, as dumb as a box of rocks, we have a 10 foot cliff and had to put up gaurd rails to keep the dumbass cows from walking over the edge. Seriously, just meat with blood still in it.
Geeze, you guys are brutal. I didn't say these beasts were candidates for the Nobel prize in physics or anything. But they actually DO possess nerve endings, a central nervous system, and a brain (yes, a lot of the brain is there to monitor activity in the four stomachs but nonetheless). Yes, when you look at a cow you just know she's thinking, "Damn! I'm a damn cow! How depressing is that?". But part of that is knowing how you guys talk about her... I'd say that cows are a little smarter and a little more self-aware than, say, digital watches or microwaves.
Who's Michael Savage? I must have one of those faces... people are always telling me I look like someone else... How come no one ever goes up to all those other people to say, Hey! You look just like Minstrel!" ????
Something you may want to do is try the food in its natural form. Fresh milk has enzymes that helps you digest it. Homogenized and pastorized milk is dead milk - killed off the enzymes and many other good qualities. We drink fresh goat milk, which if it is raised correctly and is fresh doesn't taste bad. Just don't buy the goat milk at a store - yuck!!!
I'd say there's small similarites, but I agree Minstrel... much better looking. I've never heard of him though... I think he does talk radio in California, but not sure.
Clarifying: It was half a joke, but not so much now days with people on the adkins diet who are failing to loss the weight because of quantity and imbalance. You are so right on what people gain weight with. It has a lot to do with carbs. But, there are different kinds of carbs too. Some carbs are good and are necessary to even live. Look up glycobiology, those are carbs. Other carbs are needed for energy, but most people are getting way too much of the bad carbs that cause problems like obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and all the other lovely problems. Soda is a big time loser in my book. I drink a can here or there but very few throughout the year. Soda is very damaging to the body and even the diet soda will cause people to gain weight!
If we ate everything that was stupid, the world population would plummet overnight: www.darwinawards.com
Are you talking about cows here or farmers? Don't you be dissing farmers, now, unless you want to see two of those green boxes disappear Cows aren't as dumb as they look. Who was that UK woman who had the dog training program and used to call out "Walk-ies!" in that very annoying voice? She always claimed cows were actually quite intelligent and sensitive... I remember watching one of her programs where she had trained a cow for riding instead of horses. Personally, I'm often impressed by the sensitivity and intelligence of a steak or burger...
Wow, some great points have been made. The original thought I had when posting this thread was more about the fact that without meat eaters, none of these animals would ever have a life at all. Just a random thought I had at a BBQ while drinking cheap beer I agree with DS that the current way that meat is produced in "meat factory" style farms is not good at all. It leads to bad things like mad cow disease and avian bird flu. Not to mention it's rather disturbing the way some of the animals are treated. I always buy organic milk, but it's very hard to find free range/organic meat in my area. I would certainly pay the extra $ to get natural meats, but until they become available I'll continue to munch on factory meat and try to forget where it comes from.
