Well, I released this about a week ago. I know I can't expect instant traffic and clicks, but I'm not sure about my progress. I've been out of the webmaster game for 3-4 years, so I'm kind of lost. I've been trying video upload marketing, as well as gathering backlinks. Any help towards marketing would be appreciated. Anyway, on to the website. www.veemoney.com Please review. Include criticisms on anything from Ad Placement to content placement. A few final questions: Is my niche idea more suited for a blog? What's my next step?
I think you should change the order of the What is Veemoney? and the How Veemoney Came to Be sections. I first care what your website is before I want to know why you created it. Search engines are the best way to get traffic, you need to submit to directories and build up backlinks to get a decent placement though. otherwise if you create good content people will come.
Ah, thank you for that first part. Second part, I'm working on. Spending all my available funds on backlinks, currently.
Website is Okay but it doesn't really look different to the other types of websites out there like this... you need something to make it different and more unique. As you for niche being suited to a blog... my personal opinion is if it's be done thousands of times and your method isn't different it's not really a niche idea. Good luck with the site.
For the ad placement in your content area (the verticle one) I would remove the borders because it makes it obvious that it's an add. However, if you'd like to keep the borders there, I would make the top box above the ad the same width with similar border color and thickness.
Do you want HTML markup criticisms? On a site such as yours, I don't think it's too important to be Web Standards Compliant, other than that's the right thing to do... Anyway, your site is very simple, and if you find your niche, then you'll be a success. However, if you want a much more professional feel to the site, and be considered a pro in your "niche" - I'd make sure the site validates: Your site has so many HTML errors, such as: Your site does not include a DOCTYPE definition. You need one... Was I any help?
You were, but I'd like a little more layman's terms. I mean like I've said, been out for 4 years. Care to elaborate a little on this? Seems like you have a good point, I just can't understand it.
I deal with standards-compliant websites and valid (X)HTML markup, so sorry if I was a bit too technical What program are you using to create your webpages? Most, like Macromedia Dreamweaver and MS Frontpage have options you can set to use specific web design templates that contain the correct meta data, DOCTYPE, etc. You just then "fill in" the body of the webpage with your content. Without teaching a lesson on the correct syntax usage of HTML, may I ask you to start surfing the net for webpage creators that use valid HTML in their designs. I'll get back with a list of them. I hand-code my stuff, so I can't recommend one off the top
Webpage making programs confuse me. I like raw HTML more. I hand code with Homesite 5.5. Hence I still don't know what this DOCTYPE is.
I kid you now - I use Homesite 5.5 too! When you create a blank page from the templates, they will place DOCTYPES for you. Also, if you hit "Ctrl+J" - you'll get a sub-menu with the different DOCTYPE options
DOCTYPES declare to the user's Web Browser what kind of formal "language" the webpage is written in, either HTML versions, or XHTML versions. Think of it as a title to a book that reads, "This book is written in American English"... Why do the browsers need to know? So that they can render the webpage per specifications And the DOCs get 1st placement on top of everything else ,-)
Ah, right, thankyou. Currently, Im rethinking the whole layout, it seems a little awkward. Any ideas?
