    Is Vbulletin worth it?

I'm thinking about setting up a forum and there are so many great free forum scripts out there.

So is Vbulletin worth it? It does give your forum a profesional look and its an easy to use script from a users point of view.

    Whats your opinion?

I'm not really sure, because I've converted some vB themes to MyBB and it makes it all look the same almost. But about security, vB isn't flawless, it just fixes bugs faster. That's all really. I have a vB license and I only use it because it's a paid software (meaning faster support tickets, etc.), but I'll pick something like MyBB anyday.

would have to disagree, i think Vbulletin is great and it has security that you don't really get on other free software. Yes the support is done differently due to you buying a license which makes you more important but rather that you either own a part of it or your leasing from it.

PHPBB is absolutely the worst possible choice. It is the most commonly hacked bulletin board and is almost impossible to customize. I think you better re-think your choices

I like vBulletin a lot. Its a really good looking forum with some brilliant features. There are also loads of mods / hacks out there to make it even better. The security side of things seems to be better than the other free forums too.

    no, vbulletin isn't worth it..
you really shouldn't do some searching for this same question asking a million times.
I would suggest you use a free script until you Realize that vb Is worth every penny ;)

Lol exactly!! I started out with InvisionFree and realized it was shit. Then I used PHPBB, then I realized it sucked. I used SMF, then I realized it sucked. I used MyBB and I kept that for about 5 months. Then I realized it sucked. And now I use vB.

    vBulletin rocks.

But the best combo is vBSEO + vBulletin ;)

Features + Tight Security + User Friendly + vBulletin = Worth ever penny...

But you can always start at low cost or lets say "FREE" with phpbb3. :D

I suppose. It looks more professional and is easier to mod than say phpBB, though you can do just about everything with phpBB that you can with VB for free... Just depends on the level of time/work you want to put into it. If your time is valuable, than VB might make more sense. What is it, like $160 one time, then $30/yr or something?

I am a firm believer in VBulletin. I have used it on a few of my websites. Its easy to setup and very easy to administer on the backend. Not to mention the huge database of addons that are easily installed.

Definitely worth it. I have been working with forum software for ages, and vB is the easiest to work with. I bought the license and within a few hours I could fully customise it!

It is worth every penny. Have a drive on the demo etc :)

I didnt know there was a demo. Ill give that a go.

The only reason I dont want to get it is because of money. Its quite alot for a licence.

I used phpbb before but when the site was growing, I had to migrate to VB. I think it is worth to pay for it. One of my site is VB.
