vBulletin worth it?

I'd love to use MyBB... but unfortunately I can't find a bridge for it to be integrated with Drupal. Anyone know of one?

How about yabb? Anyone know about this software? Is it good to use?

 

myBB is a good alternative to vBulletin. Although personally i prefer vBulletin i would have to say myBB would be my #2 choice as, phpBB has too many security issues even when you add loads of security hacks, even your own custom ones.

If your serious, i would get a vBulletin license, even if its leased as its much better and superior in my opinion to any other forum software on the market - even the big forums like digitalpoint agree with me

Bottom line, nothing will really compare to vBulletin.

 

we know that, but the question is is vBulletin worth paying the money for when there are plenty of free alternatives that are at least comparable?

 

I used SMF , I like their forums and especially the Ad Management MOD

 

There may be free alternatives but when you consider the huge user base of vBulletin that pretty much kills the competition. The user base gives you endless amounts of mods/hacks/plugins at your disposal. No other forum has even half the amount of mods and tweaks available with vBulletin. Also vBulletin is more secure than most other forums out there (*cough* phpBB *cough*). With such a huge user base bugs are usually found quickly and a patch is rolled out ASAP.

If you just want to start some generic "zomg lets talk about [insert TV show here]" forum then you will probably be happy with a lesser solution. But if you want to start a forum that you actually intend on promoting, growing, and forming a real user base for... vBulletin or bust.

My gripe with vBulletin is that you have to pay that ridiculous fee for every subsequent forum you register...so if you have to put 3 forums up even though you bought the license, you have to pay that fee two more times with no price break whatsoever...plus, it's $30/year x 3 to maintain them. vBulletin must be making a killing.

I'm all for paying for quality, and I wouldn't mind the one time license fee, but that annual fee is ridiculous, IMO.

 

if you want to go for commercial forum then vb is the best , otherwise go 4 any free one

vBulletin all the way, nothing compares. If you're going for quality you know the answer, although the price is a bit stiff it's worth every penny.
