I've been thinking, is it worth it? Or Should I go with myBB?

I might buy later once I got the money, or trade my sites for a license off some one.

I differ on that. MyBB will be up their with vBulletin soon, although it doesn't have as many mods.

though MyBB does have some very good mods out there :)

How can you justify the price of it though? I mean 160 dollars? Is it really worth that much?

I've had it for over a year now and I'm wondering this myself. Don't forget the annual $30 for upkeep. It's a money pit if your forum is not paying for itself somehow (and mine is not).

The alternative is to go with a free board, but none of them have branding free options, nor do they have the same level of security.

i very much like Vbulletin, i have used phpbb in the past but find vbulletin much better. If you are gonna really commit to running a forum then yes it is worth buying VB. if you are not sure if the site will take off or you think you may lose interest then go for a free forum like phpbb or one of the others, you can always upgrade to VB at a later date.. but is VB worth it. Yes

Definately worth it. You can buy a leased license and then upgrade when they tell you too. You only need to pay the difference

I have used both vB and MyBB. MyBB is almost as good as vB, and more secure. My advice is to wait until MyBB 1.4 is released, as the extra Admin and Mod options will make it as good as vBulletin, then, if you don'tlike it, go with vB,

Yes it is worth the $160 owned. If you are serious in the forum go VBulletin.

I am very serious about my forums, and have spent months developing them - content, custom plugins etc, but I am going with MyBB over vB. Just because something costs a lot of money doesn't mean its the best, most people couldn't care what forum software you are running. MyBB is free, and the only thing it lacks compared to vBulletin (out of the box) is a Mod Control Panel, which is coming out in MyBB 1.4 anyway.

And with the MyBB community, it has great support - directly from the support staff and developers themselves, not from normal members like the vBulletin forums.

So, in short, you can be serious and go with MyBB, without the cost.

VBulletin has been around for long time, it's always good to see other competitor like MyBB. If VBulletin was free for everyone then it's worth it. So my solution would be. Go for MyBB which is free, if you don't like it, change to VBulletin.
