I disagree. You will hardly find a buyer, who will pay more than 70$ for a used vb licence after vbulletin changed it's upgrade policy and prices ;)

Glad I didn't buy that 6 month old Vbulletin owned license for $65 a few months back. It appears as Vb wants to rape the people for an upgrade.

Save your money and use Mybb or SMF. Vb is the Titanic of software - a sinking ship.

The value of a used but unexpired vb licence is not influenced only by the price of a new licence, it is also determined by the price you have to pay to get security updates once the licence expired (latest after 9 months, because you only can sell a licence after holding it yourself 90 days and only once within a 12 months period per licence).

This has now changed with the new policy of October 2009 from 40$ to 175$. A new licence costs 195$. So you can make yourself the math, how much somebody would be willing now to pay for a used unexpired licence ;)

If th licnce is already expired it is worthless. The upgrade price is then exactly the same as buying new: 195$.

As you can see, vb made all efforts to kill the second hand market. Either you sell a licence very very cheap, or people will buy new - or they will witch to IPB or phpbb3 ;)

And by the way, you can sell only once every 12 months. This means that latest in 12 months, the second hand market is dead. All licence are expired then and can therefore not be transfered anymore. And nobody pays you 195$ to renew and transfer it if he can have it directly from vb new for the same price without hassle and risk...

vbulletin screwed all old customers on this...

This is why I support free software such as MyBB, SMF, phpBB and etc...
I am willing to pay $65 to $85 for software, but $195 is insane - (then when Vb 5.0 comes out, you have to pay it again + more).

If you like Vb, then MyBB should be the perfect software for you. The free styles available kinda suck, but it's easy to hire someone to make a custom style for you. -- That said, I haven't really found any paid (or free) style made for Vbulletin that I like either. SMF and phpBB, imo, have the best styles available (and they're free).

    Just food for thought.
