vBulletin: instant notification on FORUM subscription

Discussion in 'vBulletin' started by sarahk, May 30, 2006.

    When you subscribe to a forum (rather than a thread) in vBulletin you have the option of weekly or daily updates.

    such as http://forums.digitalpoint.com/subscription.php?do=addsubscription&f=37

    Does anyone know of a way to extend this to instant notifications?

    thanks

    Would you really want an email every time someone posted in a forum? Seems like a LOT of emails you would end up with...

    Without looking at it too much, it looks like you should just be able to tap into the postdata_postsave hook location to do it though...

    No, but the clients of my client do, and they're not the first client to request it. We used a mailing group via the moderators function for the last one but it got spammed.
    I'll go dig about. thanks

    I'm not sure what version you're on, but now (4 years on ... just helping out other users here!) users can simply click on the 'Forum Tools' area and select 'Subscribe to this forum'.

    They can then opt to receive instant notification at quite a high level so that they are alerted to all the posts that are created, not just individual ones.

    I just hope that this helps anyone else who also wants this functionality.

    first enter your userid in the includes/config.php file for
    $canrunqueries = '';

    Now follow these steps:
    Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> User Registration Options -> Default Registration Options
    you would see the email notifications settings somewhere there.
